Background of the Study
Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition affecting millions of children globally. In Nigeria, childhood asthma is a growing public health concern, with increasing prevalence attributed to urbanization, environmental pollution, and genetic predisposition. Effective management of asthma requires a multidisciplinary approach, with pediatric nurses playing a pivotal role in administering treatment, educating families, and monitoring patient progress.
Pediatric nursing interventions for asthma management include the use of inhaled medications, peak flow monitoring, patient education on avoiding triggers, and promoting adherence to treatment plans. Studies (e.g., Olayemi et al., 2024) emphasize the importance of early and sustained interventions in reducing asthma-related hospitalizations and improving quality of life.
In Benue State, where healthcare facilities often face resource constraints, pediatric nurses encounter challenges in implementing these interventions. Despite these challenges, their role remains critical in managing asthma and preventing complications. An appraisal of these interventions is necessary to understand their effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
Statement of the Problem
Childhood asthma is a significant health burden in Benue State, with many cases resulting in frequent hospital visits and poor quality of life for affected children. While pediatric nurses are central to managing this condition, factors such as limited access to asthma-specific medications, inadequate training, and high patient loads hinder the effective implementation of interventions.
There is a lack of comprehensive studies evaluating the effectiveness of pediatric nursing interventions in asthma management within Benue State. This knowledge gap limits efforts to optimize care and improve outcomes for children with asthma.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on appraising pediatric nursing interventions in managing childhood asthma in healthcare facilities in Benue State. It evaluates the effectiveness of specific interventions, challenges faced by nurses, and potential improvements. Limitations include variability in asthma management practices across facilities and reliance on self-reported data from participants.
